Language Tutor/Translator
Foreign languages have always been my true passion which I devote myslef to every single day. Professionally, I work as a translator and interpreter, English language tutor and an author of language blog. Personally, I pursue my passions through travelling, reading and learning other foreign languages (Italian ♥)
FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE
Systematic classes under the supervision of a professional are also a very good way to learn a language. Especially when we don't know how to go about it ourselves, we lack discipline or we just don't want to rely only on our own abilities. Regular foreign language classes are essential when preparing for an important exam or when we want to learn the language in a specific period of time. Remember that a good tutor is someone who has already gone through all grammar issues, knows not only the vocabulary, but most of all the correct pronunciation and the most popular language collocations. This person will show you the shortest path to effective learning, clearing up any doubts. Depending on your preferences, you can choose lessons at a language school, often organized in small groups of less than 10 people, or individual lessons tailored to your needs, with a mentor who will be focused only on you during the course, forcing you to work intensively.
Regardless of the form of language improvement you choose, I wish you patience, regularity and good luck in achieving your goals! I also invite you to my blog for language tips :)
MATERIALS
Many people fall into this trap right at the beginning. It seems to us that finding the most recommended books for self-study or collecting as many as possible of them guarantees fruitful learning. It does not always have to be this way, we often get lost in the excess of notes and materials or we do not have time to look at them at all, so they end up on a shelf or deep in a drawer. After some time, they become covered with dust, and we are still stuck in the same place. Focus on the materials you already have, master them, and then, if you feel the need to do so, buy an interesting item from which you will learn something new. You can also use materials available on the Internet, language applications on your phone, YouTube channels, Spotify podcasts or a variety of other language learning sources. The most important thing is to choose the ones that are the most suitable for you :)
REGULARITY
Make no excuses. Systematic learning is the key to success. Do you think you don't have time to pore over your notes? Don't worry, spend as much time as you can, let it be 20 ... 15 minutes, but do it daily, staying concentrated on it! Only systematic contact with a foreign language brings real results. You don't need to memorize a whole list of words every day, learn four or five phrases a day, but do it in context. Create an example sentence, learn the pronunciation, read the passage containing these words. The next day, repeat what you already know and learn the next few phrases. At the end of the week you will know a dozen of them, and after a few months ...? The result is up to you!
MOTIVATE YOURSELF
First, think about the benefits of being fluent in a foreign language. Are you planning to change your job, are you ashamed of being unable to communicate with foreign guests in your company, or maybe you dream of a foreign trip and are afraid of the language barrier? Any language learning goal is good. Instead of complaining about the lack of skills, imagine that you can already speak English and the words just pop into your head, you are not looking for the necessary word in your head and you do not translate sentences from your native langauge into English, it's a really satisfying feeling. The reason for learning alone will allow you to choose the right vocabulary that is worth focusing on at the beginning. So you can focus on business language by reading relevant articles or learn the communicative language, thanks to which you can easily manage at the airport, in a restaurant, in a hotel, asking for directions or making friends when travelling abroad.
The New Year is a good time for ... New Year's resolution! Among the most popular resolutions there can be listed weight loss, healthy lifestyle, saving and often ... learning a foreign language! Admit it, how many of you would like to speak English fluently without embarrassment? We live in a world where a good command of either English or any other foreign language comes in handy. It helps you get a better-paid job, makes foreign trips easier and less stressful, which is extremely important for travellers, and also allows you to understand other cultures and learn something new. Real enthusiasts love to immerse in a foreign language by reading books, listening to podcasts or watching movies. It comes easily to them because they like to learn, but what can we do when we have to master a foreign language and traditional "cramming" is not one of the most pleasant forms of spending free time for us, or we just lack this time?
